Abraham Lincoln
Framed Original Oil Painting
Valued at $3,000
Starting bid at $2,400

Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States. He was born in a back woods cabin and had little education. He did love to read and would even read while he was doing his chores like ploughing. Through his love for reading, Lincoln taught himself law and became a lawyer. This led him to politics. Abraham Lincoln had the character to stand by the right as he knew it. He also had a charitable nature in the way he treated others. President Abraham Lincoln was just the man we needed to keep our country together during its critical hour. He propelled our country past the shackles of slavery as no other could. Abraham Lincoln did not have a beard most of his life. This earlier portrait of Lincoln was taken in 1860 in Springfield, Illinois by photographer Alexander Hester. Its’ repository is the Chicago Historical Society.

George Washington in Prayer

Framed Limited Lithograph Print
Valued at $325
Starting bid at $280

Issac Potts recounted the following of George Washington:
As he approached the spot with a cautious step, whom should he behold, in a dark natural bower of ancient oaks, but the commander in chief of the American armies on his knees at prayer! Motionless with surprise, friend Potts continued on the place till the general, having ended his devotions, arose, and with a countenance of angel serenity, retired to headquarters: friend Potts then went home, and on entering his parlour called out to his wife, ‘Sarah, my dear! Sarah! All’s well! All’s well! George Washington will the prevail!’
“ ‘Well, if I seem moved, ‘tis no more than what I am. I have this day seen what I never expected. Thee knows that I always thought the sword and the gospel utterly inconsistent’ and that no man could be a soldier and a Christian at the same time. But George Washington has this day convinced me of my mistake.’
“He then related what he had seen, and concluded with this prophetical remark-‘ If George Washington be not a man of God, I am greatly deceived – and still more shall I be deceived if God do not, through him, work out a great salvation for America.’”

About the Artist - Ken Corbett
I love to study art of all kinds but classical realism from the mid 1800’s to the early 1900’s was to me, probably the greatest art produced. This is the art that I hope to be able to emulate. I believe that artists like William Bougeuroeau or Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema and many other lesser-known artists from that period were the greatest of all time. I have not attended a regular art school but through my personal study of art I have learned how to paint and compose a picture. Drawing has been easy for me. Composition and technique, as well as color, have been something that I have had to learn by studying the masters.  My wife and 7 kids are a great inspiration to me. They model for me, they encourage me to do my best and allow me to follow my life’s dream. I will not be able to reach my potential without them. Since the beginning of 1998 I have been able to paint and support my family full-time. Before this I served Salt Lake City as a firefighter for almost 11 years. When I left the fire department and could paint and draw full-time, it felt like I had completed a long internship. There is no diploma on the wall though, just a love of art and a burning inside to be the best artist that God will allow me to be.  My art is privileged to be part of many public and private collections. For the last 16 years I have concentrated on portraiture and have been able to paint great people and improve my abilities at the same time. I have painted well over 200 portraits. Painting from life and the discipline of portraiture has been invaluable to me in improving my drawing and painting skills.

Description: Abide with me
Surely the Savior knew from an early age the path that lie ahead of Him, yet He was not discouraged or dismayed. He went about doing good and filled His life, and the lives of others, with joy and happiness.

I am inspired by the story of Reverend Henry Lyte. Henry´s father abandoned the family while he was a young boy and his mother died shortly after. In addition to being orphaned at an early age, Henry struggled throughout his life with poor health - yet all that knew him commented on his cheery temperament. His final contribution came just three weeks before his death. Though he was dying of tuberculosis, Henry was still determined to give to others. He rose from his bed and penned the words that would become the cherished hymn, Abide with Me.

Abide with Me!
fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens.
Lord with me abide.

When other helpers
Fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, oh,
Abide with me!

Certainly none of us can walk through life free from illness and despair, but we each can decide how we will respond to those trials that come. This painting reminds me when trials come that I can choose to retreat into myself, or I can choose to reach out as the Savior did and bring happiness to others. Only selfless sacrifice can we ever hope to abide with the Lord.

Pioneer Woman
Sculpture by artist Burke Rutherford

Valued at $950
Starting bid at  $750

Artist Burke Rutherford was born and raised in Utah and has been a professional artist for over 50 years. As the son of two teachers, including a BYU art professor whose works are still displayed in administrative offices of the university, Burke developed a love for art in every medium, from oil to watercolor, aluminum to bronze, and everything in between. He spent his early married years studying art in California and across Europe (particularly in France, Spain, and England) and perfected his talent as an artist traveling the country with other greats such as Sumner, Christensen, Wyland, Clark, and others. He is best known for his bronze sculptures, including the official "USA Eagle" produced for the 1984 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles, CA. His creations can be found in private galleries and collections around the world, as well as larger-than-life monuments across the United States, such as the 14-foot "Butterfly Woman" in the Holiday Inn Convention Center in Austin, MN, the 9-foot "Pioneer Woman" in Pioneer Park in Worland, WY, and many others. Now a resident of sunny San Diego, CA, he has owned and operated Galleria Bellas Artes in Sonora, Mexico with his wife Pilar for more than two decades. His gallery and sculpture studio is visited by tourists and art collectors from around the world and showcases, in addition to his own sculptures, some of the most beautiful art collected from across the Southwestern United States, Mexico, and Latin America.
